Optimising Java (JVM apps/Kotlin?) for Cloud: The Enterprise, The Serverless, and The Native.

What are the options for running Java/Kotlin as a serverless app on the Cloud? Or how can you optimize your apps in general? We will explore various options for running workloads written using the latest Java and Jakarta EE versions on serverless offerings, like CloudRun or Knative.

The examples will be shown using serverless offering on Google Cloud, and can be easily applied to other Cloud providers (like AWS), or even to on-prem solutions. Furthermore, we will look into what it takes to optimize your runtime performance using various runtimes, CRaC, Native Image compilation and other techniques available for Java developers to minimize startup time and footprint of a container.
